I finally had some free time today to test out carving, bother test pieces were made with a 1/8 45 degree bit and ESTLCAM. The Zelda eagle could have been better, the tutorial I watched was old and made it seem like any area not covered by the bit in an enclosed area would be pocketed flat, which isn’t the case, but I’m still happy with how both turned out.

The detail is great and all of the corners are really sharp. Nice work!

Thanks! Next step is possibly trying to combine a flat end mill and V bit for a larger carve. I see I can do a tool change in estlcam, how do I ensure both bits are at the same Z depth?

If you are just getting started on tool changes, check this out. Mark bring you through some good concepts that help when you are new. I’ve been working with this method for a couple of months now and the results are OK. I can still get some variability in my registration from one tool to the next, so now I’m ready to make it better.

I working on adding a Z-probe and will be using this method.
